Heading North... Where the Roads End and Stories Begin

The Global Alliance for Animals and People (GAAP), working alongside Matawa Animal Wellness Services, supports remote First Nations communities in Northern Ontario through veterinary outreach and animal wellness initiatives. Together, they promote animal welfare, public health, and environmental sustainability by providing education, outreach, and veterinary support programs. Their work helps strengthen the bond between people and pets, encourages responsible animal care, and improves access to important resources for vulnerable communities across Canada.

"Going on the spay and neuter campaign at Fort Hope was a truly life-changing experience that I will always carry with me. It was incredible to be part of something so meaningful, helping improve the lives of animals while supporting the community at the same time. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to help animals, and this experience made that dream feel real in the most powerful way.

The work was both amazing and deeply rewarding, from assisting with the care of the animals to seeing the positive impact of the campaign firsthand. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to be part of it. It not only strengthened my passion for helping animals but also showed me how much of a difference compassion and dedication can make. The experience opened my eyes to the importance of accessible veterinary care and the difference compassionate action can make.
