In Loving Memory...

To the Dearest Dog in the Whole World. Our Timber.

I'm writing your poem through the blur of tears
Remembering your life with us all these years
And the most precious times together, you, dad and I
Memories we'll keep until we too die.

Your eyes, so expresive, brows up and then down
Into your samoyed smile and your hang-dog frown
And remember the times you carried your bear
Out prancing so proudly for the neighbors to share?

Boy, the miles we've walked and country we've seen
Adventures we've had and places we've been,
You worried the squirrels, racoons ran away,
But the skunks and the porcs, didn't they make your day?

You carried me through the bad times and more
Protected me to your very core
You taught me how much you really knew
Without the words to get your message through.

The last several months were hard on you
You courageously struggled when you really knew
The end was nearing, but didn't know why
Then it was finally time for saying goodbye.

You're still here, my Timber; you'll never not be
Watching us with those eyes, saying "never leave me"
We're all so connected. You're inside our hearts.
And when these hearts stop beating, our next life will start.

This life will never be the same without you, Timber.
